A recent trip to Hongkong (in 15 years...) has been an enjoyable, albeit hectic one. Amid all the great food and friendly people that makes the visit so fun, the city also offers some nice gems as far as furniture and furnishings are concerned. Those who may be travelling to Hongkong in the near future might want to consider popping by these 2 stores.

Boosting a few chains all over the city, LifeZtore is a one-stop shop offering stylish , multi-functional and finely finished home products - which belie the affordable price tags - for contemporary living. Their Rigo armchair is a stunner, but I'm completely sold on their Victorian-inspired seating collection named Modern Classiccc, with their timber frames finished in a choice of several bright-coloured, glossy spray paint finish (think neon orange or purple). One can choose between the armchair, dining chair or sofa versions (as much as I would like to, importing a piece back to Singapore would be a chore...).

Bringing the home accessories back should be much more easier and inexpensive though. Their wide range of accessories is simply interesting - mostly in a whimsical way. The unique collection of gift and home decorative items from Thailand design house Propaganda is also available at the store. The Mr P One Man Shy lamp (see left) is a funny piece of functional hardware. Literally. You've got to see it to believe it. And then there's the City Slickers bookends (see below).

Meanwhile, the name G.O.D (which means ‘to live better’ in Cantonese slang) may ring a bell with some of you, as local homeware store Anthropology carries some of their products. Being a Hongkong brand, most of the furniture here are very Asian-inspired, but designed for the modern consumer in mind. Take for example the Lunar cabinet (see below) that I saw at their Causeway Bay store. The clean-cut 'moon' design looks kinda fascinating to me.

And as with most other home furnishing stores, G.O.D carries a range of home accessories and homeware (and even fashionable T–shirts and bags). Their products are also available for purchase on their online shop.

I also recently came back from holidays at hk too. Did you try the dim sum there?
Anyway, add this shop Joineur located at wanchai to your list of must-visit shops. The store is packed full of truly oriental inspired-but still modern-furniture.
