MOVIE SETS AND INTERIOR DESIGN

I'm a big fan of beautiful movie sets. The other night, I was watching the movie “My Boss's Daughter” on TV. What caught my attention was the fabulous interior design & colour scheme. Especially that of the living room and the daughter's (Tara Reid) room.

The living room set has a nice, deep greyish blue (somewhat like ICI's Connecticut Blue) backdrop, with the furniture in walnut tones. Although that blue is very deep & dull, it also works to bring out the richness of the walnut. And in the daughter's room, a purplish-pink colour (similar to ICI's Mulberry Patch) envelopes the room and is cleverly accentuated by the mainly white-coloured furniture. The set designer managed to achieve a feminine look, without venturing into a little girl's territory. Smart.

Over the years, I remember watching some great movies with sets that will make just about anyone's knees go weak. My favourite movie sets to date are Kingdom of Heaven and Hero. But the one that I especially adore is 'Blade'. I recall vividly the baddie's (Stephen Dorff) office as a very modern & Zen-inspired room – yes, complete with water feature. That's about the only time I remember thinking to myself “Hey, that's a movie set I wouldn't mind living in for the rest of my life!” :0

Personally, I think movie sets boost some of the best interior design (and fashion design too) around. So look out for some design inspiration the next time you are watching a movie. You never know. You might just bump into some of the best ideas for doing up or designing your house.
