HONEYCOMB LAMP

The Japanese are famed for their use of paper in furniture and furnishings. Think shoji screens, light shades, cushions and futons made using paper. Honeycomb Lamp from Kyouei Design's Kouichi Okamoto is made from denguri paper, a local product of Shikoku region in Japan, and comes packed flat in a slick paper box (yes, I'm a sucker for nice packaging).

Taken out of the box, it easily folds out into the form of a table lamp, enveloping a small bulb in the middle to create a lantern-like shading effect. The stretched folds give it that honeycomb pattern, hence the name.

At $48 from Unica Home, I think it's not a huge price to pay for a little piece of innovation.
