HIGH TECH LIVING!

It's pretty clear electronic products like iPod are going to revolutionize home interiors as they did with the computing and music industry, judging from the examples we see below. Much as I hated the idea of mixing furniture with computing or technology, this is getting very real.

Not to be with mistaken for Eero Aarnio's iconic Ball chair, this round striking Sonic Chair is a classic of sorts to those who love to surf online. A 20 inch touch screen attached on what seems like a coffee table connected to the chair allows you to surf to your heart's content without disturbing anybody. And yes, it comes fitted with built-in speakers for that complete multimedia experience.

Even Pottery Barn's getting into the act. The Cushy Speaker Console features modular set-up so you can arrange the lounge to fit in your space. The sleek consoles come outfitted with stereo-quality speakers and subwoofers. One console has audio controls and an iPod-friendly jack beneath a sliding panel; the other features two cup holders and a hidden storage cubby.

I've said so many things about the Concerto Table. Need I say more?

This Multimedia Coffee Table is a digital jukebox integrated into a coffee table, allowing you or your green-eyed guests to browse through the music libraries and select the favorite tracks to fill the room. My, you can even use your portable music players to download the music directly. Woah...

HOUSE IN JAPAN BY SHUHEI ENDO ARCHITECTS

Slopes provide Shuhei Endo Architects with a chance to shine in the design and construction of this unusually skinny house, located in an old town (Shioya Tarumi-ku Kobe, Hyogo-Pref., Japan) at the foot of a hill. Making use of the natural stone retaining wall and the shape of the existing terrain, the architects added artificial ground and wrapped a structure roof cum wall in metal shingle board as part of the 'rooftecture'.

2MM THICK (OR THIN) TABLE

We human beings have an unexplainable obsession with slimmer objects. Think mobile phones and iPods.

KATADORI BY DELIBAB

The whole idea sounds like child's play, but I'm sure Japanese designers Delibab had much fun sculpting chairs with sand and water (without hitting the beach).

TREE HOUSE BY BATES MASI ARCHITECTS

Who doesn't love wood? This 2-level house, so affectionately nicknamed Tree House by its owner, is situated in a dense grove of pines and hollies at Fire Island, New York. The beautiful exterior reminds me of a carved wood sculpture, but it's the interiors which really mesmerizes. I'm attracted to the treatment on the interior wall and cabinet surfaces - using raw looking cut cypress - as well as the bleached oak floor.

STORY CHAIR BY OUTOFSTOCK

Cross cultural design group OutofStock is made up of Gabriel Tan and Wendy Chua from Singapore and Gustavo Maggio and Sebastian Alberdi from Argentina and Spain respectively. I'm particularly enamoured with their Story chair, a birdcage-inspired piece which is made out of stainless steel wire frame. The chair opens up at the back for plenty of storage.

PAPERFORMS FROM MIO CULTURE

Yes, we know wallpaper is all the rage right now. But what if you could have something that works on the same level - well, almost - and can be uninstalled easily? Wall decals might be one alternative. PaperForms is another.

BOOKSHELF DESIGN BY CITY DESK STUDIO

Transforming the idea of a traditional library ladder, City Desk Studio integrated a sliding stair into this bookshelf design, making it a decorative element in the overall structural composition. Powder coated cobalt blue, the stair is broken into two sections that move independently depending on how high one needs to reach. Stairs, unlike a ladder, allow a user to have both hands free when looking for a particular item while keeping the floor free and unobstructed.

CLIPPING

Instead of hanging a light over the dining table, how about an unique installation made from a neighbor’s tree cuttings?

5.5 designers's lighting design for the interiors of SABZ, a French interior design boutique, is a leafy affair.

Adam Wallacavage created a bizarre dining room reminiscent of an underwater realm, with aquamarine walls and a chandelier he made from cast plaster with - hold your breath - octopus tentacles for arms.

A design developed for a hooded sweatshirt (the colors drip from the hood) evolved into a wall border feature in this little bathroom.

RECYCLED WALLPAPER COLLAGE

Be inspired today and get your hands working. Sweet Jessie came up with the idea of cutting up some old wallpaper sample books to create a collage good enough to hang on the wall of her dining area. And if she can do it, so can you.

Come to think about it, give me a call if you need materials. I've got plenty of sample books back in my office, ha!

ALPHABET STORAGE FROM SET 26

Express your personal style with words.

These handmade cabinets from Switzerland's Set 26 are some of the loudest furniture you can find yet. Each oversized alphabet works like an installation art piece by itself and helps express your thoughts about a room when placed together to form that word you want. What's more, the concealed storage compartment makes sure this is not your typical decor piece that just looks good on the outside.
