Suppose Design completed this house featuring windows shaped like pitch-roofed houses on the coast of Hiroshima, Japan. As the area is threatened by floods and typhoons, living areas at the core of the house are embraced by a large communal envelope, giving the occupants a buffer zone that cushions the boundary between indoors and outdoors. The buffer – for use as sun lounge, veranda, terrace or garden – forms a safe yet dynamic shell that both unites and separates interior and exterior.
