TRESS BY MARC SADLER

Tress is the latest eye-catching lighting design by Marc Sadler for Foscarini and will be launched this year at Euroluce. The interwoven threads in resin create an extremely suggestive visual and tactile effect and bring to mind the texture of baskets.

CLIPPING

Architect Pieter Weijnen created an enigmatic blue-green 'fairytale boat' which hovers above the ground floor of this house located in Steigereiland, one of seven artificial islands dredged from Amsterdam’s IJ Lake in IJburg. From below, the color and texture of the copper plates, with their beautiful verdigris, form a scaly sculptural centerpiece for the house, articulating and enhancing the vertical thrust of the space rather than interrupting it. Above on the secong storey, the 'boat' houses the family and work areas.

The combination of baroque and minimalist elements is typical of the design palette of Carola Vannini from Carola Vannini Architecture.

The inventive use of materials, a sense of place and social agenda – qualities often considered mutually exclusive in architecture – co-exist with ease in the dynamic work of Iranian-born sisters Gisue Hariri and Mojgan Hariri (Hariri and Hariri). The living and dining spaces of this Park Avenue loft are defined by 2 sculptural folding planes which demarcate different areas while accommodating lighting in an inconspicuous manner.

CANOPY RACINE CHANDELIER FROM MATERIAL POSSESSIONS

Spring runways were scattered with confectionary-like concoctions in irresistible hues of blushes, pinks, pale acid peach, and nudes. Incorporate this delicate and ladylike color scheme into your home décor with the gorgeous Canopy Racine Chandelier from Material Possessions. This vintage-inspired masterpiece plays off the blush trend, but is also utterly timeless.

TUFTY BY JONAS JURGAITIS

Today's designers are having a whole lot of fun. Thanks to Lithuania designer Jonas Jurgaitis, we see how minimal, geometrical objects can be comfortable at the same time. Tufty is an unconventional design composed of a hard veneered shell and some hard looking, bot soft-cored spikes that can be easily bent for convenience.

In case you're skeptical, we assure you won't fall off that seat.

CLIPPING

Fresh off our design radar! This week, I'm particularly impressed by Joey Ho's tranquil apartment design, which features a densely layered interior framework that leads from one space to another using a host of reflective and transparent materials.

MOBILE BY CHRISTAN HALLEROD & JOHANNES SVARTHOLM

I'm loving this furniture installation called Mobile, which is created by artists Christan Halleröd and Johannes Svartholm. The installation consists of four frames which can be used separately or combined to "create variations such as a room, function as room dividers, a stage, complex sculptural structures or labyrinths".

HOUSE IN KARUIZAWA BY ARTECHNIC ARCHITECTS

Located in the forest of Karuizawa, Japan, this ultra modern house resembles the cross-section of a seashell, with its double-elliptical shapes and curves. The designers combined sexy curves, intricate details and clean lines for a futuristic look.

Circular skylights provide architectural interest while flooding the dark corners with bright natural daylight. The rooms are also awashed with recessed lighting at strategic spots, producing a very intimate effect.
