Everybody wants plenty of natural light at home, and in most cases open-plan living is one way to ensure we get enough of it.

When I was asked to remodel this apartment located at Flora Drive, the first thing I wanted to do was to take away the wall that enclosed the kitchen, so that it becomes part of the living space. The room looks much balanced now, which makes it seem even larger.

In order to unify the newly open space, I proposed to use a predominantly white scheme that picks up the colors of the existing kitchen cabinetry in the now 'exposed' kitchen. Punchy colors used in the living and dining areas unify the interior. I was equally concerned with how the space looked, as much as how it felt to live inside. Quirky, sculptural items like the coffee table, side bench and designer dining chairs are not just conversation pieces – they also give the interior a gallery feel.

In the study room and master suite, function is of top priority, with the punchy color accents being repeated within.
