IFOSCARINI APP FOR IPHONE

I just got myself an iPhone lately and you can only imagine how much fun I have fiddling with it! The apps really upped the entertainment value of the device and there's practically an app for just about anything you can think of (well, almost).

Now lighting manufacturer Foscarini has joined that bandwagon and released this addictive app which allows one to play around with the fixtures in different settings. Once you've uploaded a photo, you can choose from floor, table, wall, and suspension designs to include, dragging and scaling with whatever touchscreen you're working on.

As the company with the golden arches says: I'm loving it! Link

D'ESPRESSO BAR BY NEMAWORKSHOP

Although I don't fully understand how the concept relates to the design of this bar, the visual impact of a library seemingly turned on its side does intrigue me. Link

GOING ALL STARK?

A prospective client told me that day she loves the clean, white look of some of the apartments our firm designed in the past, but she's hesitant about adopting such a scheme for her new home as her husband thinks an all-white interior can look too clinical and is hard to maintain.

The husband is not entirely right.

The trick to creating a successful all-white interior is to select hardy, maintenance-free materials. Plastics, vinyl fabrics and glass are like your best friends in an all-white space. Dining chairs like the Panton S Chairs, Tulip chairs and Ghost chairs are all very easy to clean. Look for sofas with detachable covers in easy-care fabrics.

Select paints which are washable for a pristine look in the long run. Contrary to common belief, darker paint tones can actually show up dirt and stains more easily. For window treatment, why not go for white venetian blinds or fuss-free roller blinds for a change?

It's true too much white can be an overkill, so add a dosh of color like yellow or red in the soft furnishings, lamps or paintings to add zest to your decor scheme.

GREEN POCKET TILES BY MARUJA FUENTES

If you aspire to have a little kitchen garden for herbs and baby greens, these Green Pockets would be an elegant place to start. The small planters affix to the wall, interspersed with flat tile to make a three-dimensional, botanical display out of a backsplash or wall. Link

ARCHIQUARIUM BY KARL-OSKAR ANKARBERG

Not that fishes know what kind of environments they swim in, but these humble pets - if you can call them that - deserve a nicer home other than clear glass bowls. Well, at least if these tanks make you own home look much better. Link

BACTERIOPTICA BY MADLAB

Bacterioptica is itself a household organism and is alive in a very literal sense as "it cultivates, distributes and illuminates the bacterial life of its family members by way of a branching assembly of metal rods, glass petri dishes and fiber optics." I like that.

PROUD TO BE ORIGINAL

Today, an email came into our mailbox inquiring about our service:

"Dear KNQ associates,

Have been a fan of your blog for sometimes now and found most of your interior design pretty interesting and really original. One particular design that impresses me most would be the study room at Leicester Road.

Therefore, it was with great pleasure to forward you the floor-plan of my soon to-be-ready DBSS unit... and would really like to engage your ID service in turning my new home to be the best home ever."

It's heartwarming to know we are looked upon as being original. That shows if you actively seek originality, you don't have to shout.

People can really see it.
